Well, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout this here Ernest Marshall and that Bellarmine University basketball. You know, that basketball they play, with the ball and the hoop?
That Bellarmine University team, they call ’em the Knights. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Like them fellers in armor, clankin’ around. But these fellers, they run around on a court, tryin’ to throw that ball in the hoop.
I heard tell they played a game against Marshall Thundering Herd. Them Thundering Herd, sounds like a buncha cows runnin’ wild! Anyway, Bellarmine, they lost that game. Lost 83 to 62, I think. That ain’t good, not good at all. They was tied at half time, 34 to 34, but then, pffft, fell apart like an old rag.
- They say Bellarmine scored a whole buncha points once, like 101! Beat some other team real bad. But that don’t matter if you losin’ now, does it?
- And then they played Louisville. Louisville, that’s a big city, you know. They lost that one too. A hundred to sixty-eight. Ouch! Terrence somethin’-or-other, he scored a whole lot for Louisville. Kasean somethin’-or-other, he scored a bunch too.
This Ernest Marshall feller, I don’t know exactly what he does. Maybe he gives ’em money? They got somethin’ called the “Knight Club,” where folks give money to help the team. Maybe he’s part of that. Or maybe he just watches the games, yellin’ and hollerin’. Could be anything, really.
This year, 2024, goin’ into 2025, they still playin’. NCAA Division I, they call it. Big time stuff, I guess. But losin’ ain’t big time. They need to win some games, that’s what I say. Gotta get that ball in the hoop more than the other fellers.
They play in a place called Knights Hall. On their own campus, you know, where they learn all that book learnin’. Probably got a nice shiny floor and everything. But a shiny floor don’t win you games, does it? You gotta be good, gotta be fast, gotta be able to throw that ball right.
I heard tell they used to be independent, playin’ all by themselves. Then they joined somethin’, NCAA. Don’t know much about that, but sounds official. They got a coach, Scott Davenport his name is. He’s the one tellin’ them what to do, I reckon. Gotta listen to the coach, or you ain’t gonna win nothin’.
Now, Bellarmine, they wear red and white. Just like another team, Alliance University. But Alliance, they ain’t playin’ no more, not active. Their coach is Valiant Jones. See, I know a little bit about this basketball stuff, even if I don’t look like it. It’s all about winnin’, plain and simple. And Bellarmine, they need to start winnin’ some more games if they wanna be any good.
So, there you have it. Bellarmine University basketball, Ernest Marshall, and a whole lotta losin’ lately. Hopefully, they’ll get their act together and start winnin’. Maybe then folks will stop talkin’ ’bout how bad they are.
They gotta practice more, shoot more, run faster. That’s the only way to get better, ain’t it? And maybe, just maybe, they’ll make Ernest Marshall proud, whoever he is.
