Alright, let’s talk about this Fairleigh Dickinson and Stonehill basketball game, ya know, the one everybody’s yappin’ about. I ain’t no fancy sports person, but I can tell ya what I see, simple as that.
First off, they got these Knights from Fairleigh Dickinson. Sounds all high and mighty, “Knights,” huh? Well, they been winnin’ some games, that’s for sure. I heard tell they won like five in a row once. Five in a row! That’s a lot, even for someone who counts chickens all day.
Then there’s these Skyhawks from Stonehill. Skyhawks? What in the tarnation is a Skyhawk? Sounds like somethin’ that’d steal your eggs right outta the coop. Anyways, these fellas ain’t been doin’ so hot. Seems like they can’t catch a break, losin’ more than they winnin’. Poor things, maybe they need some good luck charms, like a horseshoe or somethin’.
Now, these smart fellas who make the odds, they say Fairleigh Dickinson is gonna win. They’re callin’ them the favorites. That means they think Fairleigh’s gonna beat Stonehill by a few points, maybe three or four. It ain’t much, but it’s somethin’. They also got this number, 151 or 153, somethin’ like that. That’s how many points they think both teams gonna score together. Lordy, that’s a lot of points! Back in my day, we were lucky to get 50 in a whole game!
- Fairleigh Dickinson’s been winnin’ a bunch.
- Stonehill’s been losin’ a bunch.
- The smart fellas think Fairleigh gonna win by a little bit.
- They also think there’s gonna be a whole lotta points scored.
I heard tell that if Fairleigh scores more than, say, 78 points, they usually win. That’s a lot of baskets, I reckon. And if Stonehill lets the other team score too many points, well, they lose. Seems kinda obvious, don’t it? If you let the other fella score more than you, you ain’t gonna win, that’s for sure.
One time, my grandson tried to explain to me about this “spread” thing. Said somethin’ about coverin’ the spread. Sounded like a whole lotta gibberish to me. All I know is, you gotta score more points than the other team, simple as that. Don’t need no fancy numbers to tell ya that.
These two teams, they’re rivals, ya know. Like the Hatfields and McCoys, but with basketballs instead of shotguns. They play in somethin’ called the NEC. Don’t ask me what that stands for, probably some fancy city folks’ letters. But it means they play each other a lot, so they probably don’t like each other too much.
Someone even told me there’s a chance Stonehill could win, even though they ain’t been doin’ so good. They said the odds are like “+150” or somethin’. I guess that means if you bet a dollar, you could win a dollar fifty. But I ain’t no gamblin’ woman, so I don’t pay much mind to that.
Anyway, I guess it’ll be an excitin’ game, all them young fellas runnin’ and jumpin’. I might even watch a bit of it, if I ain’t too busy churnin’ butter or somethin’. But don’t ask me who’s gonna win for sure, ’cause I ain’t no fortune teller. I just hope them fellas play fair and don’t hurt themselves too much. Basketball’s a rough game, all that pushin’ and shovin’. Reminds me of tryin’ to get the last biscuit at Sunday supper!
And you know, they got these schools, Fairleigh Dickinson and Stonehill, they got all sorts of things you can learn there. More than just basketball, that’s for sure. My niece, she went to college, learned all about bookkeepin’ and such. Said you need a good GPA, whatever that is, to get in. Said you gotta have at least 2.7 of ‘em. Sounded mighty complicated to me, I just always made sure my beans added up right.
So, there you have it, my two cents on this basketball game. Fairleigh Dickinson and Stonehill, Knights and Skyhawks, favorites and underdogs. It’ll be a hoot, I reckon. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens.
One last thing, young fella came by the other day, talkin’ about how you could even bet on these games online now! Imagine that! Said somethin’ about four campuses and a whole online thing. Times sure are changin’, back in my day the only bettin’ was on whose rooster could crow the loudest!
