Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this Callaway fella and that Mickelson boy. I heard tell they ain’t buddies no more, business-wise, you know? Callaway Golf and Phil Mickelson, they done split up. Ain’t that somethin’? After all these years, like 20 or somethin’, they say.
I reckon it all started with that new golf thingy, the LIV Golf. Heard it’s got somethin’ to do with them Saudi folks. Now, Callaway, they weren’t too happy ’bout what Phil was sayin’ ’bout the PGA and them other golf fellas. Said he was disappointed, or somethin’ like that. You know how these big companies get, all touchy ’bout their image and whatnot.
Phil, he went on and tweeted somethin’ ’bout it. Said he and Callaway still got a “great relationship,” but they ain’t doin’ business no more. Sounds like one of them polite breakups, you know? Like when you say “it’s not you, it’s me,” but really, it’s them.
- Phil done gone off to that LIV Golf, and Callaway, they didn’t like it none.
- Callaway says it was a “business decision,” whatever that means. Probably means they weren’t makin’ as much money as they wanted.
- Phil, he was gettin’ paid a whole lot by Callaway, like 42 million dollars a year! That’s more money than I ever seen in my whole life!
Now, they say this happened right before that LIV Golf started up again this year. Seems like Phil chose the money, I guess. Can’t blame him, I reckon. Money talks, as they say. But it’s still a shocker, you know? Phil and Callaway, they was like peas in a pod for so long.
I remember seein’ Phil on TV with that Callaway hat and them fancy clubs. He always seemed so happy with ’em. But I guess things change. Money changes people, they say. And businesses too, I reckon.
I heard tell that Callaway “paused” their relationship with Phil first. Then it became a whole breakup. Like when you put your beau on hold, and then you just decide to hang up the phone for good. Sounds kinda cold, if you ask me.
Some folks say Callaway made the right choice. Said Phil was makin’ ’em look bad with all that LIV Golf talk. Others say they shoulda stuck by him. Loyalty ain’t worth much these days, I tell ya. It’s all about the bottom dollar, ain’t it?
I don’t know much ’bout golf, but I know a thing or two ’bout people. And I reckon this whole thing is just a big mess. Money, pride, and golf. A bad combination, if you ask me.
Now, Phil, he’s still playin’ golf, I reckon. Probably usin’ them same Callaway balls, ’cause he likes ’em, they say. Them Chromesoft ones, I think they’re called. Until somethin’ better comes along, that is. Always lookin’ for a better deal, that’s how it goes.
So, that’s the story, as best as I can tell it. Callaway and Phil, they done gone their separate ways. End of an era, they say. Just like when they stopped makin’ them good ol’ washing machines that lasted forever. Things ain’t built to last no more, I tell ya. Not relationships, not washing machines, and not golf partnerships, neither.
It’s a dog-eat-dog world, they say. And in the golf world, seems like it’s a money-eat-golf-ball world. Who knows what’ll happen next? Maybe Phil will come crawlin’ back to Callaway, maybe he won’t. Only time will tell, I reckon. But one thing’s for sure, things ain’t gonna be the same.
Anyways, that’s all I got to say about it. It’s just a bunch of rich folks and their golf games, if you ask me.
