Alright, listen up, y’all. We gotta talk about this… whatchamacallit… fantasy football stuff. My grandson, he’s always fussin’ over it, talkin’ ’bout “Flowers” and “Olave” like they’re prize-winning chickens or somethin’. Drives me nuts, but I try to pay attention, ya know, for the boy.
So, from what I gather, these fellas, Chris Olave and Zay Flowers, they’re players in this football game. And folks like my grandson, they gotta pick who to “start” each week. Sounds like a whole lotta trouble to me, but hey, what do I know? I’m just an old woman who used to chase chickens, not footballs.
Now, this “Flowers” fella… sounds pretty, like somethin’ you’d put in a vase. But my grandson, he says this ain’t about no garden. This is about catchin’ balls and runnin’ fast. He says Flowers is quick, like a rabbit in a briar patch. But sometimes, he says, Flowers gets hurt. Fragile, I guess, like a real flower. You gotta be careful with them, or they wilt.
Then there’s this “Olave”… sounds strong, like a fella who can chop wood all day long. And that’s kinda what my grandson says too. He says Olave, he’s consistent. You know what you’re gonna get with him. He ain’t flashy, maybe, but he gets the job done. Like a good ol’ mule, steady and reliable.
So, who’s better? Well, that’s where it gets tricky. Seems like it depends. My grandson, he’s always checkin’ the news, makin’ sure these fellas ain’t limpin’ around or somethin’. He says if they’re both healthy, it’s a tough choice. Flowers, he might get you more points sometimes, but Olave, he’s less likely to disappoint you. It’s like plantin’ seeds, I reckon. Sometimes you get a bumper crop, and sometimes the bugs eat everything.
- Flowers: Fast and flashy, but might get hurt.
- Olave: Steady and reliable, like a good workhorse.
My grandson, he uses these fancy tools, these “projections” they call ’em. Says they tell you how many points each fella is gonna get. I don’t put much stock in it myself. Reminds me of the weatherman – always wrong! But he seems to think it helps him decide. He also looks at who they are playing against. Some teams are easier to play against, like a soft patch of dirt for plantin’ taters. And some teams are tough, like tryin’ to dig a well in rocky ground.
He also talks about “PPR” and I just nod my head like I know what he’s sayin’. Too much for this old brain to handle. He says somethin’ about catchin’ the ball more is better. Well, I coulda told ya that! Catchin’ chickens was always easier than chasin’ ’em.
And it ain’t just about these two, neither. Sometimes my grandson’s got other fellas to think about. This “Higgins” fella, or this “Palmer” fella. It’s like a whole barnyard full of players! And he’s gotta figure out which ones to let out to pasture and which ones to keep in the coop. It gives me a headache just thinkin’ about it.
Then there’s this “draft” thing. That’s when they pick their players for the whole season, like pickin’ your best heifers to breed. My grandson spends hours frettin’ over it. He says you gotta get it right, or you’ll be stuck with a bunch of duds. Sounds like life to me. You gotta make good choices early on, or you’ll be payin’ for it later.
So, at the end of the day, it’s all a gamble, just like farmin’. You can do your best, you can study them “projections” and read them “news reports”, but sometimes the weather changes, sometimes the bugs come, and sometimes your best rooster just won’t crow. And that’s just how it is with Flowers and Olave too, I guess. You pick one, you hope for the best, and you move on. Just like life.
And if you ask me, pickin’ who to start based on some numbers on a screen sounds a whole lot easier than gettin’ up before dawn to milk the cows. But don’t tell my grandson I said that. He thinks this football stuff is mighty important.
