Well, butter my biscuits, you wanna know ’bout this fella Jace Hampson? Alright, alright, sit yourself down and let me tell ya what I know, or what I heard tell, anyways. Ain’t no big secret, they say he plays that baseball game, throws the ball and hits it with a stick, like all them young fellers do.
Now, they tell me this Jace, he’s a young’un, born just a hop, skip and a jump ago, in 2005, they say. That’s like yesterday to me. Still wet behind the ears, I reckon. Born in Seattle, they say, big city out there, not like our little town here. Heard tell he went to some high school, Lynnwood, that was it. Guess he learned how to swing that bat over there.
Plays shortstop and third base, whatever that means. Probably runs around a lot, like a chicken with its head cut off. He’s a lefty batter, which I guess is good, and throws with his right hand. Big fella, 6 foot 1, they say, and weighs a good bit too, 175 pounds. Growing boy, I reckon, needs all that food.
- Born: August 4, 2005 in Seattle

- Throws: Right
- Height: 6-1
- Weight: 175lb
Now, them Mets, that’s a team, like a bunch of fellas playing together. They picked this Jace fella in the draft, 18th round, whatever that means. Pick number 533, can you imagine? Guess they saw somethin’ in him, swingin’ that bat, runnin’ around. They sent him to the FCL Mets, which I guess is like their little farm team, where they learn the ropes.
I seen some folks talkin’ about his “exit velocity,” whatever the heck that is. Something about how fast the ball goes when he hits it, I guess. From the catcher’s perspective, they say. Like the fella catchin’ the ball sees it zoomin’. Fast ball, slow ball, who knows? They make up all sorts of fancy words these days.
He’s just a youngster, this Jace Hampson. Just startin’ out in this baseball game. Got a long way to go, I reckon. Probably gotta eat his greens, listen to his coach, practice swingin’ that stick. Maybe one day he’ll be famous, on TV and all. But for now, he’s just another fella tryin’ to make it. Just like the rest of us, in a way.
Heard tell he’s a right good fella, this Jace. Polite, they say. Listens to his mama, probably. That’s important, you know. Good manners and respect, that’s what gets you far in life. Baseball or no baseball, it don’t matter. You gotta be a good person, first and foremost.
So there ya have it. What I know about Jace Hampson. Not much, maybe, but it’s somethin’. He’s a young fella playin’ baseball for the Mets. He’s got a ways to go, but who knows? Maybe he’ll be the next big thing. We’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we? Just like we do with everything else in life.
