Okay, so today I got thinking about baseball, like I often do. It wasn’t anything specific, just one of those days where old memories pop up. And this name floated into my head: Rex Hudler.

I remembered him being a lively guy on the field, but the details were fuzzy. So, I figured, let’s spend a few minutes digging into that. Fired up my trusty old computer, you know the drill. Just wanted to see what the records said about his time in the game.
First thing that jumped out? The sheer length of his involvement. We’re talking 36 years in professional baseball! That’s a serious commitment. Out of those, 21 years were spent actually playing the game, grinding it out on the diamond.
Then I remembered his nickname – the “Wonder Dog“. Yeah, that fit him. Always seemed to have that boundless energy. Made me chuckle remembering that.
Digging a Bit Deeper
What really got me though was looking at his actual playing career path. This guy wasn’t just sticking to one or two teams. Nope. The records show he played for a whopping 18 different teams between 1978 and 1998. Can you imagine packing your bags that often? Different cities, different teammates, year after year.
It wasn’t just teams in the States either. Found out he even did a stint over in Japan. Spent the 1993 season playing there. That adds a whole different layer to his experience, playing in a completely different baseball culture.

So yeah, that was my little rabbit hole for the day. Just refreshing my memory on Rex Hudler. Quite the journey that guy had in baseball. From being the “Wonder Dog” to playing for nearly twenty teams, including that year abroad. Definitely left his mark in his own way. Just a quick look back at a piece of baseball history I remembered today.
