Alright, so I finally got around to tackling the Morphic Pool in Baldur’s Gate 3 the other day. Been pushing through the final act, and knew this was coming up.

Getting there was the first hurdle, obviously. Fought our way through the Upper City remnants, dealt with all sorts of chaos. Honestly, by the time we reached the approach, my party was looking a bit worse for wear, but we pushed on. You sort of just get funneled towards it.
Entering the Pool
Stepping into the Morphic Pool proper… well, it’s something else. Everything’s all organic, fleshy, kinda pulsating. Not exactly a walk in the park visually. Really unpleasant, if I’m being honest. The ground squishes, things drip. You get the idea.
Had to navigate carefully. There’s this brine stuff everywhere, slows you down, makes you vulnerable. Learned that the hard way pretty quick. My strategy basically became: hug the edges, move slow, and try not to step in the glowing puddles. Easier said than done when things start attacking.
- First thing was dealing with those brine creatures. Popped up unexpectedly.
- Then came the Intellect Devourers, standard stuff by this point but annoying in groups.
- Positioning was key. Used elevation where I could find it, which wasn’t much.
The Big Encounter
Made my way deeper in. The atmosphere is thick, you know? You can feel the game pushing you towards the climax. No more side quests, no more exploring hidden corners really. It’s all about the objective now.
Then you see it. The Netherbrain. It’s massive, just like you’d expect. The whole confrontation sequence starts playing out. Lots of dialogue, lots of checks to make based on choices you’ve made and skills you have.

I went through the motions, tried to use the dialogue options that felt right for my character. It felt pretty guided, I gotta say. Like, the game really wants you to follow a specific path here, despite pretending there’s choice. Maybe that’s just me, but it felt less open than earlier parts of the game.
Had to make the final calls, decide how to approach the brain. Talked it over with my companions who were still standing. Made the choice that seemed best, or maybe least worst. It’s always a bit muddy at the end of these things.
Wrapping Up
Once the decisions were locked in, the final battle sequence kicked off. Won’t spoil the details, but it was… an ending fight. It did its job, brought the story to a close.
Looking back at the Morphic Pool itself? It served its purpose as the final dungeon. Climactic, sure. But maybe a bit of an aesthetic letdown after some of the amazing areas earlier in the game. Just felt like a lot of red, fleshy tunnels leading to a point. Functional, but not my favourite part of the journey. It got us to the end credits, and that’s what matters, I suppose.
