My Little Find: The Mickey Mantle Cooperstown Thing
Okay, so let me tell you what happened the other weekend. I was digging through some old boxes up in the attic, you know, the kind you haven’t opened in years. Full of dust bunnies and forgotten stuff. Anyway, I pull out this smaller box tucked away in a corner.

Inside, wrapped in some old newspaper, was this figurine thing. Picked it up, wiped off some dust. It was a baseball player, swinging a bat. Looked kinda old, but solid. On the bottom, I saw some text. Squinted a bit and read “Mickey Mantle” and then “Cooperstown Collection”. Huh. Mickey Mantle. Name rings a bell, big time baseball guy, right? The Yankees?
First thoughts? Honestly, I just thought it looked kinda neat. Nice little statue. Didn’t think much else at first. Put it on the desk downstairs where I could see it better. Kept glancing over at it while I was doing other things.
So, I got a bit curious later that day. Fired up the computer, not to look up value or anything crazy, just wanted to see what this “Cooperstown Collection” was all about. Found out it was a line of stuff, collectibles, celebrating Hall of Fame players. Makes sense, Cooperstown, Hall of Fame, Mantle. Seemed like the kind of thing sold in gift shops or maybe catalogs back in the day.
I spent some time just looking at the figurine itself:
- The pose, mid-swing, classic Mantle style I guess.
- The little details on the uniform, the pinstripes.
- The base it stood on, with his name clear as day.
It wasn’t mint condition or anything. A few scuffs here and there, probably from rattling around in that box for who knows how long. But it felt sturdy. Had a bit of weight to it. It wasn’t some cheap plastic thing.

Didn’t really go down the rabbit hole of trying to figure out if it’s worth anything. That wasn’t the point for me. It was more about the finding of it, you know? A little piece of baseball history, just sitting in my attic. Reminded me of watching games with my dad ages ago, even though Mantle was before my main baseball watching time.
What I did next? Nothing much, really. Cleaned it up a bit more carefully. Found a spot for it on a bookshelf in the living room. It sits there now, next to some books and a couple of old photos. It’s just a cool little thing to have, a reminder of a legend and a fun afternoon digging through old memories, literally.
So yeah, that was my little adventure with the Mickey Mantle Cooperstown Collection piece. Just a simple find, but kinda made my day finding something unexpected like that.
