Getting Down to the Fatu Family Tree
Alright, so I spent some time recently trying to piece together the Fatu family tree. It’s something I got curious about, you know, seeing all these related wrestlers popping up over the years. It felt like a bit of a puzzle I wanted to solve for myself.

First off, I just started digging around online. Simple searches, really. Typed in “Fatu family,” “Anoa’i family,” stuff like that. You pretty quickly figure out that the Fatu name is deeply connected to the bigger Anoa’i wrestling dynasty. It’s not just one separate branch.
I started trying to map out the connections I was finding. You’ve got the foundation with folks like Reverend Amituana’i Anoa’i and Peter Maivia, who were considered blood brothers. That connection links many of the big names.
Sorting Through the Names
Then I focused on the generation most people know, like Afa and Sika Anoa’i – The Wild Samoans. That seemed like a solid place to anchor things. From there, I tried tracing their kids and siblings.
This is where the Fatu part really came into focus for me. I found out that Afa and Sika had a sister, Elevera Anoa’i Fatu. Her sons are the ones many fans know:
- Sam Fatu (Tama / The Tonga Kid)
- Solofa Fatu Jr. (Rikishi)
- Eddie Fatu (Umaga)
Okay, so that clarified how that specific Fatu line connected back to the main Anoa’i trunk. It wasn’t just a random name; they were nephews to Afa and Sika.

Tracking the Next Generation
Once I had that generation sorted, I started looking at their kids. This is where it gets even bigger, with so many active wrestlers today.
From Rikishi, you obviously have:
- Jonathan and Joshua Fatu (Jimmy and Jey Uso)
- Joseph Fatu (Solo Sikoa)
Then I looked into the others. Sam Fatu’s son Jacob Fatu is making waves. And Eddie Fatu’s (Umaga’s) son Zilla Fatu is also getting into the business. It shows how deep these roots go.
Of course, while I was doing this, I also kept track of the other Anoa’i branches. Sika’s son, Leati Joseph Anoa’i (Roman Reigns), is a huge part of the picture. And Afa’s kids, like Samula Anoa’i (Samu). And then there’s the connection to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson through Peter Maivia.
Putting It All Together (Kind Of)
Honestly, keeping it all straight was a bit of work. You find different bits of info in different places. Sometimes names are similar, or people use their ring names versus their real names. I basically just sketched it out, trying to group people by generation and sibling relationships.

I didn’t use any fancy software, just notes and trying to visualize the connections. It was more about understanding the main lines and how they intersect, especially how the Fatu brothers (Tama, Rikishi, Umaga) fit into the larger Anoa’i family picture through their mother.
It’s a really extensive family with a massive impact on wrestling. Mapping it out, even roughly, was pretty interesting. Gave me a better appreciation for how interconnected they all are.
