Alright, so I’m gonna walk you through this little experiment I did. Saw some chatter online about Khamzat Chimaev and, well, the lack of beard in some recent pics. Figured I’d mess around with some basic image editing stuff to see what I could cook up. No biggie, just a bit of fun.

First thing I did was grab a couple of recent photos of Khamzat. You know, the ones floating around after his weigh-in or whatever. I picked a few where his face was pretty clear and the lighting wasn’t totally garbage. Crucial step, trust me. Bad source image, bad results.
Next, I fired up GIMP. Yeah, yeah, it’s not Photoshop, but it’s free and does the job for simple stuff like this. Opened up the first photo and just stared at it for a minute. Gotta plan your attack, right? I was thinking I’d try to give him a bit of stubble, nothing crazy, just a hint of beard.
I started by using the clone stamp tool. This thing is a lifesaver. Basically, you sample a part of the image and then “paint” it somewhere else. I sampled some of the darker areas around his hairline and sideburns and carefully painted that onto his chin and jawline. Light touches, you know? Don’t want it to look like he glued on a bunch of pubes.
Then, I messed around with the blur tool. The clone stamp can leave things looking a bit too sharp and artificial, so a little blur helps blend it all together. I also used the dodge and burn tool to add some subtle shading and highlights to the “beard” area. Makes it look a bit more natural.
Repeated the process on a couple of other photos. Each one needed slightly different treatment depending on the lighting and angle. It’s all about tweaking and adjusting until it looks halfway believable.

Honestly, the results were… mixed. Some of them looked okay, like he just hadn’t shaved in a couple of days. Others looked like a five-year-old drew on his face with a Sharpie. But hey, it was a fun little project. Learned a bit more about image manipulation, and got to waste some time on a slow afternoon.
Lessons Learned:
- Good source images are key.
- The clone stamp tool is your friend.
- Subtlety is crucial. Don’t overdo it.
- Beards are hard to fake.
So yeah, that’s pretty much it. Just a random experiment with image editing and Khamzat’s face. Don’t expect to see me working at a Hollywood studio anytime soon, but it was a good time.
