Okay, so I decided to dive into this whole “Shadows of the Past” thing in Wuthering Waves the other day. Been hearing bits and pieces, figured I’d see what it was all about myself.

Getting Started
First off, I had to actually find where this kicked off. Wasn’t immediately obvious, you know? I spent a good chunk of time just wandering around Jinzhou, talking to random folks, hoping someone would drop a hint. No luck there. Then I remembered seeing something mentioned about an old area, kinda rundown. So, I pulled up the map and headed towards the Dim Forest, thinking maybe something old and shadowy would be lurking there.
Got there, and yeah, it definitely had the vibe. Lots of twisted trees, kinda gloomy. I started exploring, just poking around. Found an old, abandoned research outpost, looked like it hadn’t been used in ages. Inside, there was this dusty terminal flickering weakly. Naturally, I went over and tried to activate it.
The Process – Digging In
That terminal was the key. It spat out some corrupted data logs, talking about echoes, memories… typical mysterious stuff. It pointed me towards tracking down several energy signatures scattered across the zone. So, my next step was clear: hunt down these signatures.
This part involved a bit of legwork. I followed the markers on my map, which led me to different spots within the Dim Forest and nearby areas. Each spot had a small puzzle or a group of Tacet Discords guarding it. Nothing too crazy difficult, but took some time.
- First signature: Had to fight off a wave of those spiky dog things.
- Second signature: Found a weird resonance device. Had to tune it, kinda like matching frequencies. Took me a few tries to get the hang of it. That was a bit tricky.
- Third signature: This one was guarded by a slightly tougher elite enemy. Had to really pay attention to dodging its attacks.
After collecting data from all the signatures, the objective updated. It told me to return to that old research outpost. Back I went. Interacted with the terminal again, uploaded the data I’d gathered. This time, it decrypted a bit more, revealing coordinates to a hidden location, deeper in a canyon nearby.

The Climax and Wrap-up
Finding the hidden spot was cool. It was behind a waterfall, classic hidden entrance. Inside was a cave, and at the center, some kind of projection device was active. It started playing fragmented scenes, like holographic memories. Looked like scenes involving some researchers from long ago, dealing with some experiment gone wrong. Lots of arguing, warnings… the “shadows of the past,” I guess.
There was a final encounter here. Not a big boss fight, but more like dealing with corrupted energy remnants, manifestations of those past events. Cleared those out. Once it was done, the projection flickered one last time, showing a final log entry from a lead researcher, full of regret.
And… that was pretty much it. The device powered down, the objective marked complete. Got some standard rewards, materials and whatnot. But the main thing was uncovering that little hidden story. Felt pretty satisfying, like I’d pieced together a forgotten tragedy. Took a good couple of hours altogether, what with the initial searching and then tracking everything down. Just another day exploring, I suppose. Pretty interesting piece of lore tucked away there.
