Alright, let’s talk about putting together an MLB parlay. It’s something I tinker with now and then, mostly for a bit of fun, you know? Not really about getting rich, more about making the games a little more interesting to follow.

Getting Started – The Idea
So, the other day, I had some time and thought, why not try and string a few MLB picks together? Parlays always have that appeal, right? Small stake, potentially big return. Course, they’re tough to hit, but that’s part of the challenge. I wasn’t looking for some magic formula for the “best” parlay, just wanted to go through my usual process and see what came out.
Digging In – Picking the Games
First thing I did was pull up the day’s schedule. Looked like a full slate of games, which is good and bad. More options, but also more chances to mess up.
My process isn’t super scientific, gotta be honest. It’s a mix of things:
- Pitching Matchups: This is usually where I start. Who’s on the mound? Have they been pitching well lately? Do they usually do okay against the team they’re facing? I spent a good chunk of time just looking at the starters, checking their recent game logs. Nothing too deep, just trying to get a feel for who might have an edge.
- Team Streaks: Are teams hot or cold? Sometimes a team just gets on a roll, hitting everything, or their bullpen shuts everyone down. Or the opposite, they can’t buy a win. I glanced at the recent standings and W/L records over the last 5 or 10 games.
- Gut Feeling: Yeah, I know. But sometimes you just have a feeling about a game. Maybe it’s a rivalry game, maybe one team travels well, maybe I just like a certain lineup that day. I try not to rely on this too much, but I don’t ignore it either.
I narrowed it down to about five or six games I felt okay about. Then came the harder part: cutting it down to a reasonable parlay, maybe 3 or 4 legs. More legs mean higher payout, but man, the odds get crazy long, and one wrong pick sinks the whole thing.
I remember juggling a few options. Had the Dodgers in there initially, they looked solid. Then I looked closer at the pitching matchup for the other team and got a bit spooked, swapped them out. Considered an over/under bet on one game where both teams seemed to be scoring a lot, but decided to stick with moneyline picks just to keep it simpler this time.

Finally settled on three teams. Felt like a decent balance. Not too greedy, but still offered a nice potential return if it hit.
Placing the Bet and The Wait
Putting the bet together was easy enough. Selected my three teams, punched in the wager amount. Double-checked everything looked right. Then, clicked confirm. That’s it. Nothing more I could do.
Then comes the waiting game. Sometimes I watch the games, sometimes I just check the scores periodically on my phone. It definitely adds a different layer to watching baseball. Every run, every out feels magnified when your parlay is on the line. Had one game go into extra innings, which was nerve-wracking!
The Result and Final Thoughts
So, how did it go? Well, this time… no dice. Got the first two legs right, feeling pretty good. Then the third team, the one I felt maybe most confident about, ended up losing by one run in the late innings. Classic parlay experience, right? So close, yet so far.
But honestly, that’s how it goes. It was fun putting it together, doing the little bit of research, and having that extra investment in the games. Didn’t break the bank on the wager, so no harm done. It’s a process of trial and error, learning a bit each time. Maybe next time I’ll focus more on bullpen stats, or maybe I’ll try just a two-team parlay. Who knows? For me, it’s just about the process and enjoying the games.
