Okay, so I’ve been messing around with putters lately, trying to find something that just feels right, you know? I stumbled upon this “Stingray” putter design and figured, why not give it a shot? I mean, it looks kinda cool, like something out of a sci-fi movie.

The Build
First things first, I needed to get my hands on one. I couldn’t find one in any stores, I decided to make my own! So, I grabbed some scrap metal from my garage, the good old stuff and printed some drawings.
I spent a good chunk of Saturday afternoon cutting and shaping the metal. It wasn’t pretty, let me tell you. Lots of sparks flying, and my workshop looked like a disaster zone. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right?
The next step was welding the pieces together. Now, I’m no pro welder, so this was a bit of a challenge. My welds are not a master piece. But, with some patience (and a few curse words), I managed to get it all stuck together.
- Shaping the head: This took the longest. Getting that “Stingray” shape just right was tricky.
- Attaching the shaft: I used an old golf club shaft I had lying around.
- Adding weight: I wanted a heavier feel, so I added some extra metal to the bottom.
The Result
The finished product? It’s…unique. Ugly. It’s definitely not going to win any beauty contests, but it’s mine. And that’s what matters.
I took it out to the putting green yesterday, and honestly, I’m still on the fence. The weight feels pretty good, but the alignment is a little off. It will need some getting used to. I might need to do some tweaking, maybe add some more weight, or adjust the shaft angle. It’s a work in progress, for sure.

The sound when the ball hits the face is…interesting. It’s not that satisfying “click” you get with a store-bought putter. It’s more of a “thunk”. But hey, maybe I’ll grow to love it.
Overall, it was a fun little project. Was it worth it? Probably not in terms of performance, but it was a great way to spend a weekend, and I learned a thing or two along the way. I will use it for my next round and see. Wish me luck!
