Okay, so I saw this “Fragpunk Playtest” thing pop up and figured, why not? I’ve been itching for a new shooter, and the whole cyberpunk aesthetic always gets me.

First, I signed up for the playtest. It wasn’t super obvious where to do it, so I poked around a bit on their website. I am not sharing the website, just my personal notes! Finally found the form and filled it out. Pretty standard stuff – email, username, that sort of thing.
Then came the waiting. The worst part, always. I kept checking my email like a maniac. Finally, I got the acceptance email and the download key!
Downloading and Installing
- Downloaded the game client. It was a pretty hefty file, so I let that run while I made some coffee.
- Installed it. No problems there, just clicked through the usual prompts.
- Launched the game. The intro cinematic was pretty slick – really set the mood.
Once I got into the main menu, I spent some time just messing with the settings. I always like to tweak the graphics to get the best balance of visuals and performance. And, of course, I had to customize my controls. I’m a weirdo who inverts the Y-axis, so that’s the first thing I always do.
Then, I jumped into a match. I think it was some kind of team deathmatch mode. The maps were cool – lots of verticality, neon lights, and that gritty cyberpunk feel. Gameplay-wise, it felt pretty fast-paced. Lots of sliding, jumping, and shooting around corners.
I got my butt kicked, of course. I’m still learning the maps and the weapons. But it was fun! I even managed to get a few kills, which felt pretty good. I was so exciting about this.

I played for a couple of hours, trying out different characters and weapons. I like the weapons in the game, it feels so real. Each character seemed to have their own unique abilities, which added another layer to the gameplay. I need to spend more time figuring out how to use those effectively.
Overall, my first impression of the Fragpunk Playtest is pretty positive. It’s still early, and there are definitely some things that need work. But the core gameplay is solid, and the style is awesome. I’m definitely going to keep playing and see how it develops.
