Okay, so I wanted to really get to the bottom of this whole Nate Diaz vs. Nick Diaz thing. Who’s really the better fighter? It’s a debate that’s been raging in the MMA community forever, and I figured, why not do my own deep dive?

First, I started by watching a ton of their fights. Like, a lot. I dug up old Pride fights for Nick, UFC fights for both of them, Strikeforce… you name it, I probably watched it. I didn’t just casually watch them, either. I was taking notes, you know, like a crazy person.
My Research Deep Dive
- I focused on their stand-up. Who landed more significant strikes? Who showed better defense?
- Then I moved on to their ground game. Submissions, takedown defense, control time… all that good stuff.
- I looked for patterns. Did they struggle against certain types of fighters? Did they have go-to moves?
It was exhausting. I spent hours just comparing their jabs. Seriously, their jabs! But after a while, I started to see some subtle differences.
I recorded some of the significant moments from the fights. I noted down the name of the event where the fight was, the opponent, and the result of the fight.
Nick, in his prime, seemed more explosive. He threw harder punches, went for more knockouts. Nate, on the other hand, always seemed more durable. He could take a beating and just keep coming. It’s like he enjoyed getting punched in the face (which, knowing Nate, is entirely possible). I reviewed the notes over and over again.

After watching what my gut told me was enough content, I then moved my attention to any and all interviews. I wanted to try and understand their mindsets, their training, their approach to fighting. I scoured YouTube, podcasts, old articles… anything I could find. I’m pretty sure I watched every Joe Rogan podcast with either of them at least twice.
Finally, I tried to compile all my data, messy as it was, into something resembling a conclusion. It wasn’t easy, and honestly, it’s still subjective. But I feel like I have a much better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses now. I can see it!
I can say that, this journey has really been enriching, and I’m glad I went through this activity. Hope you learned something!
