Okay, so I got really curious about Christian McCaffrey’s 40-yard dash time. Everyone talks about how fast he is, so I wanted to see the actual number and, you know, maybe try to feel a little bit of that speed myself.

First, I looked up his official time. Turns out, it’s 4.48 seconds. That’s… ridiculously fast.
My 40-Yard Dash Attempt
So I wanted to map my own field, with my family’s help of course.
-
Find a Field:
First things first, I needed a flat, open space. The local park’s football field was perfect.
-
Marking it:
Then I used a tape measure. I measured out 40 yards, and used some cones as markers. My starting line and finish line.
-
Get a timer:
My wife acted as the time keeper. She used her phone’s stopwatch.
-
Warm up:
Before running, I did all the stretches I remember from high school track, like I jogged a bit, did some high knees, butt kicks.
Then came the hard part.I lined up at the starting cone, took a deep breath, then try my best to sprint.
My wife yelled “Go!”, and I was off.I pumped my arms, focused on the finish line, try not to fall flat on my face.
My first run? Let’s just say it was a humbling 6.2 seconds. Nowhere near McCaffrey’s time, obviously. I tried a couple more times, getting slightly better each time, but still… yeah, I’m no NFL running back. I can see the huge difference.
It was a fun experiment, though! It really puts into perspective how incredibly athletic these guys are. I’ll stick to watching football from my couch, I think.
