Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter online about “bad college mascots” lately, and it got me thinking… are they REALLY that bad? Or are they just… misunderstood? I decided to dive in and do some digging myself.
My Deep Dive into “Bad” Mascots
First, I started by just Googling “bad college mascots”. I mean, where else do you start, right? I got a bunch of listicles, some funny articles, and a whole lot of opinions. Lots of people seem to hate on mascots that are, well, a little different.
I made a list of the ones that kept popping up. You know, the ones people love to make fun of. Then I started looking into each one individually. I wanted to see their history, what students thought about them, the whole nine yards.
I spent hours going through old college newspapers (thank you, online archives!), reading student forums, and even watching some old game footage on YouTube. It was a lot, I’m not gonna lie.
One thing I observed is that it’s all subjective and I decide to stop here.
