Okay, so today I decided to mess around with “Blast the Ruins” in Yu-Gi-Oh! I’d seen some chatter online about it being a decent card in certain decks, so I figured, why not give it a shot?

First things first, I pulled up my trusty DuelingBook. I don’t own a physical copy of “Blast the Ruins”, and honestly, who has time to organize real cards anymore?
I started by throwing together a basic deck. Nothing fancy, just some standard monsters, spells, and traps that I thought might work well. I wasn’t really aiming for any specific strategy, just wanted to see how the card played in a casual setting.
Initial Testing
- I played a few matches against random opponents. The first couple of games, “Blast the Ruins” just sat in my hand. It’s a trap card, needs to be set, and I was not getting the opening to use, and it felt a little clunky.
- Then, in one game, I finally got the chance to activate it. My opponent had a pretty full field, and I managed to destroy a couple of their key monsters. It was pretty satisfying!
- However, most of my duels ended with it getting destroyed before I could use it. I am not good at defending my back row, so there is definetly a skill issue.
Tweaking and Tinkering
After those initial tests, I realized I needed to build the deck a bit differently to really make “Blast the Ruins” shine. It’s not a card you can just throw into any deck and expect it to work miracles.
So, I started experimenting. I added in some cards that could protect my back row, like “Dark Bribe” and “Solemn Judgment”. I also included some monsters that could special summon themselves easily, to help me recover if my field got wiped.
Final Thoughts (For Now)
After a few more hours of testing, I came to a few conclusions:

- “Blast the Ruins” can be powerful, but it’s definitely situational.
- You need to build your deck around it to some extent, or at least have ways to protect it.
- It’s probably not going to win you every game, but it can definitely be a fun card to use.
I’m still not sure if it’s a “meta” card or anything, but I had a good time messing around with it. I’ll probably keep tinkering with the deck and see if I can make it even more consistent. Maybe I’ll even try it out in a local tournament sometime, just for kicks.
