Okay, so I’ve been getting into Canadian football lately, and I was super curious about the field size. It just looks bigger than the NFL fields I’m used to. So, I decided to do a little digging and, well, measure it out myself…sort of.

My “Scientific” Approach
First, I did what anyone would do – I hit up the internet. I needed the actual, official measurements. It’s not like I could just stroll onto a CFL field with a tape measure!
The search results gave me what I needed. And after some searching and reading, I got a grasp on them. Time to put this into “real world” perspective.
Visualizing the Size
I’m not a builder. I couldn’t build a full football field. Then the thought entered my mind, that my own yard is not even close to big enough. I got my measuring tape from my toolbox.
Started visualizing this thing in my backyard. My yard isn’t tiny, but It gave me a pretty good sense of scale.
- The Length:Then there is the actual end zone, which is deep! I paced that out and, man, that’s a lot of extra running for a touchdown.
- The Width: Okay, this is where it really felt different. I’m used to thinking of football fields as long, but the CFL field is significantly wider than I expected. I could barely fit the width without ending up in my neighbor’s bushes!
Putting It All Together
Even though I didn’t build a whole field, marking out those key measurements in my yard really changed my perspective. It’s not just numbers on a screen anymore. I can almost feel how much extra space the players have to work with.

It was a fun little experiment. It definitely made me appreciate the differences in the Canadian game even more. Now, when I watch a CFL game, I’ll have a much better understanding of the distances involved.
