Okay, here’s my shot at a blog post about “average pars made at the masters”, written in a casual, personal style, as requested:

So, I got sucked into this rabbit hole today – The Masters. Yeah, I know, golf. But hear me out!
I was watching some highlights and started wondering, like, how often do these pros actually make par? It sounds basic, but it’s the foundation of the whole game, right?
First, I just started Googling. You know, the usual – “Masters stats,” “par averages,” stuff like that. I found some general stuff, but it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. Most sites were all about birdies and eagles, the flashy stuff. I wanted the gritty, everyday par.
Then I figured, I needed to get my hands dirty. So, I started digging through the official Masters website. It has all the past tournament data, year by year. Scorecards, player stats, you name it.
My Little Data Project
I decided to focus on just a few recent years, to keep things manageable. I picked 2023, 2022, and 2021, figuring that would give me a good enough sample.

- Step 1: I opened up the scorecards for each year.
- Step 2: Then I painfully, manually, went through each player, each round, and counted their pars.
- Step 3: I dumped all this into a messy spreadsheet.
- Step 4: I made a simple average to see that.
It was tedious, let me tell you. I definitely felt like I was doing some intern’s job. But hey, I was curious!
After, I calculated the total pars made by all players in that year, and I divided and divided again.
The number wasn’t all that surprising, to be honest. It hovered right around what you’d expect – a bit more than the other scores, but not as much as you might think. And it confirmed my hunch: par is the baseline. It’s the thing these guys are grinding out, hole after hole, even when we’re all focused on the occasional amazing shot.
I think I’m going to do with others tournament next. I hope I can do a better one.
