Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into MLB The Show 24, and one thing I really wanted to figure out was how to get those nasty sidearm pitchers working for me. It’s not as easy as it looks, let me tell you!

First, I spent some time just messing around in Practice Mode. I picked a few different sidearm guys – you know, the ones who throw all funky – and just tried to get a feel for their release point. It’s way different than your typical over-the-top delivery.
Figuring Out the Release
The key, I realized, is all about timing. You gotta release the ball way later than you think. It almost feels wrong at first, like you’re going to throw it straight into the dirt. But that’s how you get that crazy movement.
- Experimented with different pitches: sinkers, sliders, changeups – all look different from a sidearm angle.
- Focused on hitting my spots: Getting that low, outside corner is money with a sidearmer.
- Watched a bunch of replays: Slow-mo is your friend! I studied how the ball broke and where I was aiming.
It took a good chunk of time, and plenty of frustration, just throwing pitch after pitch. My thumb got a workout, that’s for sure. Slowly but surely, I started to get a better hang of it. I started to get a feel for which arm slot I perfer throwing.
Taking It Online
Once I felt somewhat comfortable, I jumped into some online games. Yeah, I got shelled a few times at first. People see a sidearmer and they think they’re gonna feast. But I stuck with it.
I learned that mixing up speeds is huge. That slow, sweeping curveball after a fastball on the inside corner? Forget about it. Batters just look silly.

It’s still a work in progress, no doubt. I’m not dominating every game or anything. But I’m definitely having more success, and it’s super satisfying to strike someone out with a nasty sidearm slider.
Finally, my practice is perfect!
