Okay, so today I messed around with something called “Hershey Hendley”. Honestly, I’d never heard of it before, but I stumbled upon it and thought, “Why not?”
First, I had to figure out what the heck it even was. I did some digging, and it turns out it’s related to some kind of fonts, or maybe vector graphics. I am not a graphic designer, just a person who loves to play around and discover new things. I think I must do something in order to get results.
My Exploration Begins
I started by, you know, searching for any available information to help me out, which is a normal thing to do, if you want to do something, you must know how to do it. There were some mentions of it in some pretty technical papers, which, to be honest, went way over my head. It seems to be a very niche thing, and I did not expect it to be so complicated, I just want to have a glimpse of it.
Then, I tried to find any tools or libraries that mentioned “Hershey Hendley”. I figured there might be something out there I could play with. I poked around in some code repositories, but it was like searching for a needle in a haystack, a really, really big haystack made of code I barely understood.
Getting My Hands Dirty (and Failing… Mostly)
I eventually found some snippets of code that seemed related. It looked like… C code? Maybe? Honestly, it was all a bit of a blur. I tried to copy-paste it into a compiler, hoping something magical would happen. Surprise, surprise, it didn’t.
I spent a good chunk of time just staring at the code, trying to make sense of it. I tweaked a few things, changed some numbers, and generally just poked around. The result? A whole lot of nothing. No pretty pictures, no fancy fonts, just… error messages. Lots and lots of error messages.

A Tiny Victory (Maybe?)
At one point, I managed to get something to compile. I don’t know what it was supposed to do, but it ran without crashing! I felt a tiny surge of accomplishment. Then I tried to feed it some data, and… well, it didn’t crash, but it also didn’t do anything. Or at least, nothing I could see. The computer does something!
Wrapping Up (Empty-Handed)
So, after a few hours of this, I decided to call it quits. My “Hershey Hendley” adventure didn’t exactly result in anything spectacular. I didn’t create any cool graphics or discover any hidden secrets. But, hey, I learned a little bit about something I’d never heard of before. And I confirmed, once again, that coding can be a real pain in the butt.
That is it! That is the summary of my play-around.
Maybe someday I’ll come back to this and actually figure it out. But for now, I’m going to go do something a little less… frustrating. Like maybe watching paint dry. That sounds exciting, at least I can see the difference!
