Okay, so I wanted to get better at spotting traps in Baldur’s Gate 3. I kept getting my party wiped out by those annoying fire traps or hidden floor panels, and it was getting old, real fast.

First, I tried just running around and hoping for the best. Yeah, that didn’t work. I blew up so many times. My characters were looking at me like I was an idiot, which, fair enough.
Then, I figured, “Hey, there’s gotta be a ‘Detect Traps’ spell or something, right?” I dug through all the spells my characters had, and sure enough, there’s stuff that helps, but nothing straight up called “Detect Traps.” I was using characters with a good Wisdom scores and Perception skills. That was a definite improvement. I started noticing those little Perception checks popping up on the screen more often.
So, here’s what I started doing: I always, I mean always, make my high-Perception character as a team leader when I think I might walk into the danger * I spotted something suspicious, I’d have everyone stop. Slow and steady, you know?
I also realized that the environment gives you clues. Like, if you see a bunch of scorch marks on the floor, duh, probably a fire trap nearby. Or if a section of wall looks a little… off, give it a closer look. It’s common sense when you are get used to it!
The best part I learned recently is to have the high-perception character to be the leader and let other team members stay behind.I got pretty good at spotting most traps. My party is finally surviving more, and I’m not reloading saves every five minutes. It’s still challenging, but at least now I feel like I have a fighting chance, instead of just blundering into every trap like a blind, clumsy oaf.
