Alright, so I wanted to see if I could slap some light armor on my Wizard in Baldur’s Gate 3. Figured it might help keep my squishy spellcaster alive a bit longer, you know?

First thing I did was check if Wizards even could wear light armor. Turns out, they can’t by default. Bummer.
So, I looked into how to get around this. There are basically two ways: get the proficiency through your race or by taking a feat.
Getting Light Armor Proficiency Through Race
- Human or Half-Elf: These guys can pick up “Light Armor Proficiency” as part of their racial features. Easy peasy.
- Githyanki or Shield Dwarf: These races come with Light Armor Proficiency baked right in. No extra work needed.
I was already playing a Tiefling, so I choose the feat route.
Getting Light Armor Proficiency Through a Feat
At level 4, I got to pick a feat. I went with “Lightly Armored.” Boom! Now my Wizard can wear light armor.
After that, I found some basic light armor and equipped it. My AC went up a bit, which is nice. It’s not a huge difference, but every little bit helps when you’re a fragile Wizard, right?

So, yeah, that’s how I got my Wizard into light armor. Not too complicated, but it definitely made me feel a little less like a glass cannon.
