Okay, so, today I was poking around, trying to figure out something about this “Logan Betts” guy, the shooter from the 2019 Dayton, Ohio thing. It’s a heavy topic, I know, but I was curious, you know?
Digging into the web
First, I just started with a simple Google search. Typed in “Logan Betts” and scrolled through a bunch of news articles, mostly from back when it all happened. It was a lot of the same stuff, the basic facts, the timeline, you get the idea. But nothing really deep, just surface-level info.
Social media rabbit hole
Then I thought, “Maybe there’s something on social media?” So I checked out Twitter and Facebook. Found a few accounts that seemed like they might have been his, but they were all locked down or taken down. Kind of a dead end there, really. But I did stumble on some forum discussions where people were talking about him, sharing screenshots and stuff. It was mostly speculation and rumors, but there were some interesting bits and pieces.
Finding the manifesto
Someone in one of those forums mentioned a manifesto or some kind of online writings attributed to him. They didn’t provide it and I do not want to post it here, even if I found it, out of respect. I spent a good chunk of time trying to track that down. Eventually, I found something that seemed credible, a document that was supposedly written by him. It was rough, a lot of angry and hateful stuff. I’m not going to go into details, but it was definitely disturbing.
Connecting the dots
After reading through all of that, I tried to piece it all together. What was this guy’s deal? What made him do what he did? I compared the information in the news articles with what I found in the forums and the supposed manifesto. It’s still kind of a mess in my head, but I started to see some connections. His online activity, his interests, his apparent ideology, all seemed to point to a really dark and twisted place.
Reflecting on it all
Honestly, it was a pretty depressing dive into this whole thing. I mean, it’s one thing to read about these events in the news, but it’s another to really dig in and try to understand the person behind them. It leaves you with a lot of unanswered questions and a heavy heart. I still don’t fully understand what drove Logan Betts to do what he did, but I definitely have a better, albeit darker, picture of him now. It also made me think a lot about how easy it is for people to get lost in these online echo chambers and how that can lead to some really dangerous outcomes. I’m no expert, but it is interesting to me.
Anyway, that’s my little journey down the Logan Betts rabbit hole. It’s not exactly light reading, but I think it’s important to try to understand these things, even if it’s uncomfortable. Maybe it can help us prevent something like this from happening again, who knows? Also, I’d like to mention, I did this in my spare time, and it is only from my own thoughts and opinions, I am not an expert on these topics.
