Alright, so I’ve been grinding away at Mortal Kombat 9 lately, trying to figure out the whole tier list situation. It’s a mess, honestly, but I’m starting to see some patterns. Let me walk you through what I’ve been up to.
First thing I did was jump into countless online matches. I played with a bunch of different characters, trying to get a feel for their strengths and weaknesses. I got my ass kicked a lot, not gonna lie. But hey, that’s how you learn, right?
Then, I started digging through forums and discussions online. There are lots of people who say they know about which character is the best one, so I checked out. It seems that “A lower number shows that more people agree with this character’s match ups”. There is a Version 3 Tier List that many players would like to use. Some characters like Sub Zero and Liu Kang are pretty strong as they are easy to use. There’s this one tier list from the Strategy Guide that puts Shang Tsung, Raiden, Kung Lao, and Nightwolf at the top. But honestly, it felt a bit off from my experience.
After that, I started experimenting with different combos and strategies. It said “Sub Zero’s combos are easy to pull off and have very high percent”. I spent hours in the training mode, just trying to nail down those inputs. Some characters, like Sub-Zero, have these insane combos that are not difficult to pull off and can do some serious damage, and the ice clone is so useful in defense. Liu Kang is also easy to play due to his speed.
I also paid attention to how different characters match up against each other. Certain characters just seem to counter others really well. I think Cyrax should be in A tier after trying.
So, here’s the thing I will build my own tier list. It’s still a work in progress, but I’m starting to get a clearer picture. And “if you click your desired character” you can see the details.

Keep in mind, this is just based on my experience and what I’ve gathered from the community. Tier lists are always subjective, and things can change as people discover new tech and strategies. “The Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) Characters Tier List below is created by community voting and is the cumulative average rankings from 106 submitted tier lists” and I am sure they are different.
