So, the other day I was messing around with this crossword puzzle, right? And I stumbled upon this clue, “Have time to chat?” It got me thinking. How many different ways can you answer that in a crossword? It’s not as simple as it sounds, you know?

First, I went through my usual routine. I grabbed my phone and started digging around online. Found a bunch of crossword solver sites. They’re okay, I guess, but it felt kinda like cheating, just plugging in the clue and getting the answer. Not my style.
Then, I remembered that this clue had popped up before, back in June, in the USA Today puzzle. That got me wondering if the answer had changed since then. Maybe there’s a new solution out there? So I started looking through forums and stuff, where people discuss these puzzles. No luck there. Most folks were just as stumped as I was.
After that, I decided to go through my own mental database, haha. Tried to think of all the phrases that mean “have time to chat.” You know, things like “got a sec?” or “you busy?” But that wasn’t really getting me anywhere. The crossword needed something specific, and I just couldn’t put my finger on it.
Digging Deeper
- Checked out a few more crossword sites. They all seemed to have the same answers, mostly “GOTASEC.”
- Looked at the date of the clue again. June 5th, 2024. Still no new leads on a different answer.
- Tried to brainstorm some more, but my mind was blank. Needed a break!
Feeling a bit defeated, I took a break. Sometimes you just gotta step away from these things, right? Came back to it later, and it hit me. Why not just try to solve the rest of the puzzle around it? Maybe that would give me some hints.
So I started filling in other clues, the easy ones first. Slowly but surely, the grid started to take shape. And then, boom! I got it. The letters around the “have time to chat” clue started to make sense. “GOTASEC” actually fit perfectly!

It was a good reminder that sometimes the best way to solve a problem is to approach it from different angles. You can’t always just brute force it. And sometimes, you just need to give your brain a little break. Anyway, that’s my little crossword adventure for the day. Hope you found it somewhat interesting!
