So, I heard the buzz about CS2 finally dropping, and like everyone else, I was pretty stoked. It was September 27, 2023, when it officially hit the scene. I’d been following the news for a while, and I knew there had been some limited beta testing going on, but still, it felt like a big deal.
First thing I did was fire up Steam to check it out. The download didn’t take too long, which was a relief. Once it was done, I jumped right in. I started with a quick look at all the options and settings to make sure everything was how I liked it.
Then, I dove into a few casual matches to get a feel for the game. It is a new era of Counter-Strike. The first thing I noticed was the updated graphics. The maps looked sharper, and the lighting was definitely improved. It felt familiar but also fresh, you know?
After messing around in casual, I decided to check out the competitive mode. I played a few matches and noticed some changes there, too. The ranking system seemed different, although I couldn’t put my finger on what exactly had changed. And I saw a guy saying Valorant is miles ahead of CS2 right now in terms of a working leaderboard. I don’t know if it is true or not.
One thing I was really curious about was the whole “operation” thing. I’d heard people talking about an operation pass and how you could buy it on the Steam Market even after an operation ended. I did a bit of digging and found out that was true. I guess it’s cool for people who miss out on an operation while it’s live. And someone mentioned that as the 25th anniversary approaches, the community expects a big patch with new features on June 19. I made a note in my calendar to see what was going on.
Overall, my first impression of CS2 was pretty positive. It felt like a solid update to a classic game. There’s still a lot for me to explore, but I’m excited to see what else is in store. I’ll definitely be playing more and keeping an eye out for any news or updates from Valve.
