Okay, so today I want to talk about this guy, Jay Stanley, from Southern Miss. Man, this dude’s been making some noise, and I’ve been following his progress for a bit. It all started back on, let’s see, December 25th. Yeah, Christmas Day. I was probably stuffing my face with holiday food when I first came across his name.
I remember reading up on him and finding out he was named second-team All-America by some outfit called Action Network. That got my attention. Then I dug a bit more and saw he was also a third-team all-sun Belt pick by the coaches. Not too shabby for a junior, right? I mean, in 2022 season. He’s been playing safety, and from what I gather, he’s been pretty solid.
I kept seeing his name pop up here and there. There was this one time, January 9th, 2021, I think I saw a brief mention about him being a redshirt senior for the 2024 season. That meant he was sticking around for another year, which was cool. He is 6’1″, such a strong safety.
Then recently, I saw that he and Frank Gore Jr., the running back from Southern Miss, were the only two Golden Eagles to be named to the conference’s preseason first teams. That’s a big deal! And I noticed some other names mentioned alongside him – Langston Newsome was one, and also this coach, Will Hall, seems to think highly of him. That’s always a good sign.
Now, I’m no expert, but from what I’ve seen, it seems like he is going to be a key player for Southern Miss. I saw somewhere that he’s projected to start alongside some other guys like Dylan Lawrence or MJ Daniels at safety, and they’ve got Ques McNeal and Micheal Caraway at cornerback.
- 2022 (Jr.): Named second team All-America by Action Network at safety.
- Earned third-team all-sun Belt by the coaches.
- Projected starters with Dylan Lawrence or MJ Daniels at safety.
There are a few other names that were mentioned as ones to watch – Jay Jones and Brendan Toles. It sounds like Southern Miss has got a decent defensive lineup, and this Jay Stanley guy is right in the thick of it. He is the only one who was selected to the conference’s preseason first teams at the Sun with Frank Gore Jr., I think.
Honestly, I just like following these college players and seeing how they develop. It’s cool to watch their journey, you know? And this Jay Stanley fella seems like he’s got a bright future ahead of him. I’m definitely going to keep an eye on him and see how he does this season.
I keep tracking what he did, and I will share it next time! It is a pleasure to share my tracking and what I found about him!
