Alright, so I was playing Overwatch the other day, right? And this new guy, Mauga, is just wrecking everyone. He’s got these huge guns, he’s tough as nails, and he’s a real pain to deal with. I was getting frustrated, so I thought, “There’s gotta be a way to shut this guy down.”
So, I hopped into a few games, trying out different heroes to see who could stand up to Mauga. First, I went with Zarya. The idea was to use her bubbles to soak up some of that damage and power myself up at the same time. It worked okay, but Mauga’s damage output is so high that I couldn’t always keep up. I mean, I could take some heat off my teammates, but taking him down solo was tough.
Next, I tried Sigma. His shield is pretty strong, and you can reposition it easily. I was throwing that shield in Mauga’s face, blocking his shots, and then using my own attacks to try and wear him down. It was a bit better than Zarya, especially with Sigma’s ultimate, I could lift Mauga up and make him an easy target. But again, Mauga is just so darn bulky.
Then I thought, “Okay, let’s try .” Her Defense Matrix can eat up a lot of damage, and she’s mobile enough to get in and out of trouble. I was flying around, using my matrix to block Mauga’s shots, and then boosting in to do some damage of my own. It was hit and miss, sometimes I could outmaneuver him, but other times he would just shred through my mech. She is also a good choice when facing Mauga.
I even messed around with some damage heroes. Symmetra‘s turrets can be annoying for him, and her beam can do some serious damage if you can charge it up. But she’s pretty squishy, so you gotta be careful. Sombra was interesting because you can hack him and shut down his abilities for a bit. But timing is everything with her, and if you mess up, you’re toast. With his shotguns and life-steal ability, Reaper is also a good choice to deal with Mauga, if you like playing close-quarters combat.
On the support side, I found that Ana was pretty solid. Her sleep dart can interrupt his charge or ultimate, and her anti-heal grenade can stop him from healing himself. That was a big help, especially when he was low on health. Zenyatta‘s Discord Orb was also useful for increasing the damage he took. He is also one of my best heroes when it comes to playing against Mauga.
And guess what? I found that Hanzo‘s ultimate can perfectly trap Mauga when he used his ultimate. This trick really helped me win a game!
I also found some people talking online, mentioning Bastion. I didn’t try that myself, but it seems like he could be a good counter, too. That’s why I write it down here, maybe you could have a try.
Here’s a quick rundown of who I tried:
- Zarya: Okay, but not amazing.
- Sigma: Better, can block a lot of damage.
- : Hit and miss, depends on mobility.
- Symmetra: Annoying, but squishy.
- Sombra: Good if you time it right.
- Reaper: Nice choice for close combat.
- Ana: Sleep dart and anti-heal are great.
- Zenyatta: Discord Orb helps a ton.
- Hanzo: His ultimate is helpful.
So, yeah, that’s what I found out. Mauga is a tough cookie, but there are definitely some heroes who can make his life difficult. It just takes a little experimenting to figure out what works best for you.
