Okay, so I’ve been following the whole PLNU baseball saga, and man, what a ride it’s been! Let me tell you about it.
It all started with me casually checking the scores, you know, just seeing how our local teams were doing. And boom! I saw that Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) was making some serious noise in the college baseball world. They were the top seed, and everyone was talking about their road to the College World Series. I got pretty hyped, not gonna lie.
I started digging in a bit more. Turns out, these guys were on fire! They won their first-ever PacWest Conference title and the NCAA West Regional. It was history in the making, and I was here for it. I even went down to a few games – the atmosphere was electric! Everyone was buzzing about PLNU, and the dream of making it to the College World Series felt so real.
There was this one game, I think it was against Azusa Pacific, that really stuck with me. It was Game 3 of the Super Regional, and the tension was thicker than peanut butter. PLNU ended up winning 5-2, and the crowd went wild! It was such a huge moment.
I got so caught up in the excitement that I started following the team on social media. Their Instagram, @plnusealions, was blowing up. They posted this one picture after they won the West Region, captioned “HEADED TO CARY”, and it got over 1,400 likes! Everyone was going crazy, congratulating them and sending good vibes. It felt like the whole city of San Diego was behind them.
From what I gathered, the College World Series is kinda like the Champions League of college baseball. You got these brackets, double-elimination, the whole nine yards. It’s a big deal, and PLNU was right in the thick of it. Apparently, the first one ever was held way back in 1947, but it’s been in Omaha since 1950. Some local businessmen, led by a guy named Johnny Rosenblatt, were key to getting it there. It’s all pretty fascinating when you look into the history.
I followed every game, every update. The team lost Game 1 of the Super-Regional, but they pulled it out on the Saturday, winning by just one point in the first game. They played great, especially Dylan Miller. Seeing them battle their way through was something else. I mean, they were so close to making it to the final round. I lost a few hours of sleep, keeping up with the results!
So yeah, that’s my story of following PLNU’s journey to the World Series. It was a wild ride, full of ups and downs, but definitely one for the books. They really made San Diego proud, and I’ll be keeping an eye out for them next season. Go Sea Lions!
