Today, I wanna share a little adventure I had with League of Legends. You know, that game a lot of us play, sometimes more than we should. Well, I ran into some weird stuff in the game, and it got me thinking there might be some flaws in their code.
So, it all started when my buddy decided to download LoL for the first time. He went through all the usual steps, but then he got stuck. Like, really stuck. He was on the Code of Conduct screen, but there was no Code of Conduct. Just a blank space. He couldn’t click anything to proceed. We tried a bunch of things, restarting the game, his computer, even reinstalling the whole thing, but nothing worked.
This got me digging around online. I found some stuff about “LoLdle,” which is like this daily riddle thing related to League of Legends. You get these clues, like quotes or emojis, and you have to guess the champion. It’s kind of fun, but it got me thinking about the actual game code. You know, that old saying, “spaghetti code” or something, it means that the code is tangled and messy. I found a quote online, which is “Unless you are solving some trivial problems that require visiting single * link there is always room for error in code.”
I started to notice other little glitches. Like, sometimes the character voices would have these weird filters, or the quotes would be different from what I remembered. Even the sound effects were off sometimes. Unique events are missing sometimes. It was never anything game-breaking, but it was noticeable.
It seems like whenever you mess with the older parts of the code, you’re bound to mess something up. Especially if the code is messy, to begin with. Which, let’s be real, a lot of old games have some pretty messy code. It is not easy to keep a game with so many characters and abilities bug-free.
Anyways, it made for an interesting evening. We never did figure out how to fix my friend’s Code of Conduct problem. He ended up just giving up. But it got me thinking about how complicated these games are under the hood, and how even the smallest error in the code can cause some pretty weird issues. It’s all connected, you know? And sometimes, all it takes is one little bug to make everything go haywire. So, yeah, I think there are some flaws in their code, but it’s still a fun game, flaws and all.
