Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this thing called a Pokemon ROM randomizer. Basically, it’s a tool that lets you scramble up different parts of a Pokemon game, like which Pokemon you start with, which ones you find in the wild, and even the items you can get.
First, I had to find a ROM, which is like a digital copy of the game. Let me tell you, that’s a whole thing. It’s a bit tricky because, you know, downloading ROMs can be kind of dicey in some places. Not entirely legal in some areas, depending on where you get it from. But I managed to get one.
Then, I found this randomizer tool online. It looked pretty simple, so I downloaded it and opened it up. It had all these options to change things. I decided to start with something simple and just randomize the starters. That means I don’t start with the regular ones, and I might start with a legendary or other strong pokemons. It was quite exciting.
After that, I started playing with the wild Pokemon encounters. The tool allows you to choose how random you want things to be. You can set a range for the stats of the Pokemon you find. So, like, if you set it to 50, you’ll find Pokemon with stats around that range. The original Pokemon might be replaced with a total different one. A little Rattata might be replaced by another strong Pokemon. I spent a good chunk of time tweaking these settings to see what would happen.
- Find a ROM. This was the first step. I had to find a digital copy of the Pokemon game I wanted to randomize.
- Download a randomizer tool. There are a bunch of these available online, I just picked one that seemed easy to use.
- Mess with the settings. I started with the starters, then moved on to the wild Pokemon encounters.
- Start the game with randomizer. I need to load the ROM in the randomizer to start the game.
- Enjoy the chaos! It was actually pretty fun to see what crazy combinations the randomizer came up with.
The whole process was a bit of a learning curve, but it was also a lot of fun. I mean, I ended up with a team that I never would have put together in a normal playthrough. I even found some rare Pokemon in places where they normally wouldn’t be. There’s also a tool to randomize Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia. It can randomize that game and won’t get rid of necessary field, so the game can run smoothly. I haven’t tried it yet.
It’s definitely something I’d recommend if you’re a Pokemon fan and you’re looking for a new way to experience the games. Just be careful where you get your ROMs from, okay? It is a little bit risky.
My Next Steps
I think I’m going to try randomizing some of the other settings, like the items and maybe even the trainer battles. It could get really wild! I am not going to do that soon, because I haven’t finished the game I just randomized.
