Blackburn Rovers vs Newcastle United, Years Ago
Long time back, I remember folks talkin’ ’bout Blackburn Rovers. Back in, oh, 1875, they started up. They was one of the first in that Football League, 1888, it was. And Premier League, too in 1995! They moved to that Ewood Park place in 1890. Big place.
They done good, Blackburn. Won them championships, three times! And FA Cups, six of ’em. And other cups, too. They was real good back then. Folks was always talking about how good they were.
Newcastle United, Them Lot
Then there’s Newcastle United. They’re a tough bunch, them. Always been tough. They got relegated a couple times, 2009 and 2016, I recall. But they always come back up, them do. Won that Championship, they did. Showed ’em all.
They played each other, Blackburn and Newcastle. Lots of times. Always a big game, when they played. Everybody wanted to see it. I hear there’s records of them playin’. Head-to-head, they call it. You could probably look it up, all them games they played.
Them FA Cup Games
- I remember this one FA Cup game, back in ’58. Blackburn beat Newcastle, 2-1. It was a real nail-biter, that one. Everyone was talkin’ about it for weeks.
- Then, later on, they played again in the FA Cup. Newcastle won that one, on penalties, they did. 1-1, it was. They went to the quarter-finals, them Newcastle boys.
They got all the stats, you know. How many goals they scored, all them games they played. Past matches. It’s all there, if you want to know. I ain’t no good with them numbers, though. My head gets all fuzzy.
Blackburn in the 1960s, Oh Boy
Back in the ’60s, Blackburn, they was really somethin’. Top of the league, they was. Everybody was scared to play ’em. They was a force to be reckoned with, them Blackburn lads.
More Games, More Fuss
They kept playin’, Blackburn and Newcastle. Year after year. Sometimes Blackburn won, sometimes Newcastle. It was always a big deal, though. Everyone in town would be talkin’ about it. Who’s gonna win, who’s gonna lose.
I remember one time, they played, and it was such a close game. Everyone was on the edge of their seats. You could hear a pin drop, it was so quiet. Then, bang! Someone scored. I can’t remember who, though. My memory ain’t what it used to be.
Today’s Game
They still play, you know. Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United. Still goin’ at it. It ain’t like the old days, though. Things change. But it’s still a big game. People still get excited about it. They got all them new players now, new managers. It’s a whole different ball game, as they say.
Blackburn, they was runners-up a few times in the ’90s. League and FA Cup. Close, but no cigar, as they say. Newcastle, they been up and down, like a yo-yo. But they’re still there, still fightin’.
If you want to know everything, every single game they played, you’ll have to do some lookin’. There’s records of it all, somewhere. I ain’t got the time for all that, though. Too much for this old brain to handle.
