That Kevin Sumlin, he’s a football coach, you know. He’s been around the block a few times, that one. Heard he got some new job, somethin’ about Maryland, or whatever. Co- somethin’ or other. And tight ends! What in the tarnation are tight ends? Sounds kinda rude if you ask me. But hey, what do I know? I just know that Kevin Sumlin contract is a big deal.
They say he signed some big ol’ paper a while back, somethin’ about five years. Five years! That’s a long time to be throwin’ a ball around. He must really like it, or maybe he just likes the money. I reckon he gets paid a good chunk of change for all that hootin’ and hollerin’. They say it was with, uh, Arizona? Yeah, Arizona. Must be hot down there. I wouldn’t wanna be runnin’ around in that heat. Nope, not for all the tea in China.
And the money, oh lord, the money! Millions, they say. Millions! I can’t even count that high. Back in my day, we were lucky to get a nickel for a whole day’s work. This Kevin Sumlin contract, it’s somethin’ else. He got two million first. Two million dollar! Can you imagine? Two million just for throwin’ a pigskin! And then two million again the second year! Makes my head spin just thinkin’ about it.
- Two million the first year
- Two million the second year
- Five years total
He was at Texas somethin’ before, I heard. Got a whole bunch of money when he left there, too. Ten million, I think it was. Ten million just to say goodbye! I should be so lucky. This Kevin Sumlin contract business is a real gold mine if you’re good at that sort of thing.
Five years, they say this new one is. That’s a long time in football, I reckon. Lots can happen in five years. He could get hurt, or maybe he just won’t be as good as he used to be. That happens, you know. You get older, things don’t work like they used to. Even with a big fancy Kevin Sumlin contract, ain’t no one can stay young forever.
But I guess he knows what he’s doin’, this Kevin Sumlin fella. He’s been around a while. He’s probably seen it all, done it all. And he keeps gettin’ these big ol’ contracts. Must be doin’ somethin’ right, I suppose. Maybe throwin’ a ball is harder than it looks. It sure looks simple enough from here, though. You just throw it and hope someone catches it. But what do I know?
Fourteen and a half million, all told. That’s what they said on the TV. Fourteen and a half million dollars for five years of work. That’s more money than I’ve seen in my whole life, put together. It’s more money than this whole town’s probably seen! This Kevin Sumlin contract, it’s just… well, it’s just somethin’ else.
I guess if you’re good at somethin’, people will pay you for it. And this Kevin Sumlin, he must be real good at whatever it is he does. Throwin’ that ball, runnin’ around, yellin’ at people. Whatever it is, he’s makin’ a good livin’ at it, that’s for sure.
But still, fourteen and a half million dollars! That’s a lot of money. You could buy a whole lot of things with that kind of money. A whole lot of houses, a whole lot of land. You could probably buy a whole town with that kind of money! This Kevin Sumlin contract is just mind-boggling, that’s what it is. Mind-boggling.
He’s probably set for life, that Kevin Sumlin. Don’t have to worry about nothin’ no more. Just gotta keep throwin’ that ball around for a few more years, and he’s good to go. Retire, live on a beach somewhere, I don’t know. I wouldn’t know what to do with all that money. Probably just give it away, I reckon. Can’t take it with you when you go, that’s what they say.
This whole Kevin Sumlin contract thing, though. It sure does make you think. Makes you think about how much things have changed. Makes you think about how much money there is in that football game these days. It’s a different world, that’s for sure. A whole different world.
Well, I guess that’s all I got to say about that. Just somethin’ I heard, somethin’ I was thinkin’ about. This Kevin Sumlin contract, it’s a big deal. A mighty big deal. I just hope he’s doing good and he deserves that.
