Okay, so today I wanted to see how the players stacked up in the 1. FC Heidenheim vs. Borussia Dortmund match. I’m not a pro analyst or anything, just a guy who likes football and wanted to try my hand at giving out some player ratings.
First off, I pulled up the match details online. Needed to see who played, what positions, and all that jazz. Found a few sites that had the lineups and some basic stats. I made sure I had a good list of all the players from both teams, so I wouldn’t miss anyone.
Getting Started with Observations
Next, I watched some highlights and read a few match reports. I wasn’t going to watch the whole game again – ain’t nobody got time for that! But I wanted a feel for how the game went, who seemed to be doing well, and who was maybe having an off day.
I jotted down some notes while watching these clips. Stuff like, “This guy made a great tackle,” or “Wow, that was a terrible miss!” Just quick observations to help me remember what I saw.
Creating My Rating System
Now for the fun part – the ratings themselves. I decided to keep it simple: a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being “He’s the next Messi” and 1 being “My grandma could do better.” I figured this was easy enough for me to use and for anyone reading to understand.
- 1-3: Pretty bad. These guys probably want to forget this game ever happened.
- 4-5: Meh, not great, not terrible. They were there, I guess.
- 6-7: Decent. They did their job, maybe had a good moment or two.
- 8-9: Really good! These players made a big impact on the game.
- 10: Perfect. Absolute legends, they were on fire!
Putting It All Together
With my notes and my rating system, I went through each player one by one. I thought about what I saw in the highlights, what the match reports said, and any stats that stood out. Then, I slapped a number on them. It wasn’t super scientific, more of a gut feeling based on what I’d seen and read.
For example, if a player scored a goal or made a crucial assist, they were probably going to get a higher rating. If someone got a red card or made a big mistake that led to a goal, well, their rating was going to suffer. I’m pretty sure everyone can understand this.
The Final Result
After going through all the players, I had my list. It was interesting to see how everyone compared. Some players were clear standouts, while others were kind of in the middle. And, of course, there were a few who probably wished they’d played a bit better.
It was a fun little project. I wouldn’t say my ratings are the definitive word on player performance, but it was cool to go through the process and see how I’d rate everyone. Maybe I’ll do it again for another match sometime. It’s a good way to pay a bit more attention to the individual players and not just the overall result of the game.
